Why Diesel Is a Good Thing for the 2020 Range Rover Sport

A little whiff from an old truck or a passing highway tractor can make you feel like you're choking. It's often seen as an industrial fuel that leaves soot everywhere. And aren't diesel engines annoyingly loud? You might ask why, then, would Land Rover build the 2020 Range Rover Sport SE and Range Rover Sport HSE with a diesel engine?

This isn't your old-school diesel engine anymore. The 3.0L turbocharged diesel V6 is a perfect pairing for the 2020 Range Rover Sport. Here's why.

Clean Diesel

The 3.0L Td6 turbocharged V6 is available in both the Range Rover Sport SE and HSE trims, yet the engine is nothing less than a premium power plant. The Td6 engine produces less carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, and hydrocarbons than comparable gas-powered options. There are fewer maintenance components in diesel engines for less parts going to the landfill. Even at its core, diesel fuel requires less refinement and is one of the most efficient fuels on the planet!

Due to the advanced design that incorporates direct injection and top-tier dampening technologies, the Range Rover Sport's Td6 diesel engine is much quieter than you'd expect. Even the noise pollution is reduced.

Awesome Fuel Efficiency

Diesel fuel is rich in energy - much more so than gasoline of any grade. The compression-ignition combustion process is also substantially more efficient than igniting fuel with a spark. It's what drives the fuel efficiency for the 2020 Range Rover Sport way up to 8.0L/100km.

Its fuel capacity of 86 litres, along with its awesome fuel efficiency rating, means the diesel-powered Range Rover Sport can travel up to 1054km between visits to the fuel station.

High-Capacity Towing

There's a reason that most big trucks and highway tractors burn diesel - they're ideal for towing. The Range Rover Sport's Td6 V6 engine creates 440 lb.-ft. of torque at just 1,750rpm. What does that mean for you? If you're towing up to the Range Rover Sport's max towing of 3,500kg, you won't need to hold the RPMs near redline to maximize your acceleration and pulling power. All that torque is available at normal operating ranges for smooth, efficient pulling.

Torque-y Acceleration

Forget the slow diesel vehicles of the past. The 2020 Range Rover Sport SE and HSE with the 3.0L diesel engine are quick! From a dead stop, you can accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in just 7.7 seconds. That's enough for you to show your pearly whites, isn't it?

The diesel-powered Range Rover Sport trims, SE and HSE, are available now at Budds' Imported Cars Land Rover. Stop in to take one for a test drive today.
