The Defender lineup has continued to expand since its arrival on the market, offering larger, more capable, and certainly more expensive versions. However, the British automaker now seems to be heading in a different direction by preparing a more affordable variant.
After years of rumors and speculation, what appears to be a smaller version of the JLR Defender was spotted on the road earlier last week.
JLR has been hinting for some time now at a smaller, more affordable Defender Sport, akin to the Evoque or the Discovery Sport. It now seems likely that this new variant will soon join the British brand’s lineup.
A Fully Electric Version
Needless to say, little is known about the model beyond its overall shape and size. The development team didn’t hold back in wrapping it in heavy camouflage. In any case, its dimensions remain reasonable, making it a perfect model for urban adventures. We also hope it will retain some off-road capabilities, as the brand has built a strong reputation around that identity.
Where things get particularly interesting is under the hood, as the JLR Defender Sport is expected to offer at least one fully electric version.
The JLR Defender has seen massive success since its launch, and the brand’s CEO has already stated that more models are on the way within the Defender family. So don’t be surprised if additional variants join the lineup following the Defender Sport.
The British automaker’s new SUV is expected to arrive in dealerships next year as a 2027 model. All signs point to an official unveiling before the end of 2025 — an event we’re eagerly anticipating.
